The Success of Vietnamese-American Poker Pro Minh Ly
There is no denying that most poker professionals are either Americans or Europeans. Nevertheless, some poker professionals are neither Americans nor Europeans. Some come from Russia, some are from Indonesia, and some are from countries where we never imagined are capable of honing poker players.
Believe it or not, more and more poker professionals come from Vietnam. Some of these are Young Phan, Men Nguyen, David Pham, and Chau Giang. And the Vietnamese poker professional that we will be talking about is Minh Ly.
Born in Vietnam on March 24, Minh Ly used to be a welder who has relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. He honed his poker skills by playing 2-4 Hold'em games until he built his confidence in participating in high stakes limit poker games.
Minh Ly has yet to win a World Series of Poker bracelet, but he has already been showing his noteworthy skills in the said tournament. In 2001, this poker professional became the third placer in a US$3,000 Limit Texas Hold'em game, taking home the amount of US$55,870. He also finished in the money in the US$2,000 Pot Limit Hold'em game that he played in the same year.
In 2002, Minh Ly placed ninth in the World Series of Poker main event, winning US$85,000. This poker professional continued to play in the World Series of Poker, allowing him to experience money finishes four times. One of this money finishes was being the second placer in a US$5,000 Short Handed No Limit Hold'em game that was won by poker professional Doyle Brunson. He also became the 19th placer in a US$10,000 game of the World Series of Poker.
On October 18, 2005, Minh Ly experienced being a first placer when he joined the Doyle Brunson North American Poker Championship of the World Poker Tour that was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The cash prize that Minh Ly took home totaled to US$1,060,050. This also earned him a World Poker Tour title. Such event was attended by several poker giants, including Phan, Johnny Chan, Barry Greenstein, Kathy Liebert, and T. J. Cloutier.
Minh Ly considers 2005 as a great year for him. This poker professional did not only have several victories in the World Poker Tour, but he also had several victories from his participation in World Series of Poker events and other major poker tournaments. With all his victories, Minh Ly has been making his fellow Vietnamese poker professionals proud of the country where they come from.
When Minh Ly is not busy as a poker professional, he makes sure that he spends time with his wife Lu Binh. The earnings of this poker professional from live poker tournaments have most probably reached more than US$2,500,000.
